Crime Stoppers is a community funded organization that provides a mechanism for anyone who wants to report information about a crime, location of stolen property, location of wanted persons, and location of illegal drugs. And here's the best part:
Our program receives money from the Jefferson County Probation Department. When a person is convicted and placed on probation they are required to pay a fee to the Probation Department. A portion of that fee is earmarked for Crime Stoppers and is sent to us to pay rewards. We can only use Probation Fee money to pay rewards. We have various fundraisers throughout the year to help with our operating costs and other expenses.

5. If the information you provide is valid and helps solve a crime, you will be
eligible to collect a Cash Reward. It is your responsibility to check back
with us as that is the only way we will be able to notify you if you will
receive a reward. The amount of the reward and
where to go and pick up the cash will be explained to you when you call. |

How it all began:
The idea for Crime Stoppers came in 1976 when Greg MacAleese, an Albuquerque,
New Mexico Police Officer, read about a group called "Crime Stoppers" in the popular
Dick Tracey comic strip. The comic strip version of Crime Stoppers was a group of
Junior G-Men, who helped the fictional character solve crimes. MacAleese received
permission of the late artist Chester Gould to use the name Crime Stoppers, and one of
the most successful citizen-law enforcement groups was started.
Today, there are more that 850 Crime Stoppers organizations in all 50 United States,
as well as in Puerto Rico and Guam, and the foreign countries of Mexico, Canada, Great
Britain, Australia and elsewhere. The work of Crime Stoppers has been cited by law
enforcement agencies of all levels as a major deterrent to criminal activities, and a
positive force in making communities a safer place in which to live.
